A short-yet-rich history highlighted by a renowned architect. We’ve accomplished much in just a few “golf years.”
When you think “golf” and “history” it’s the legendary, traditional 1920’s courses shaped by the friendly ghosts of golf that come to mind. Yet, Cherry Blossom has accomplished much in a short span of time – thanks in part to the jump-start we got by a true master golf architect.
Opened in the fall of 2001, Cherry Blossom scored immediate recognition from Golf Digest Magazine as a Top 10 “Best New Affordable Golf Course” in 2002. This was followed by Golfweek’s “America’s Best Courses You Can Play” recognition from 2004-2010. For seven years we’ve been No. 1 in Kentucky. (And we don’t even play basketball!)
When a course plays as well as ours, the tourneys find you.
We hosted the NGA Tour (former Hooters Tour, now the Swingthought.com Tour) from 2008 – 2013. We’ve hosted numerous Kentucky Section Events.

Thank you, Clyde Johnston, for a wonderful course!
Clyde Johnston Architects lead by Clyde Johnston himself, did a marvelous job in shaping Cherry Blossom.
The design firm, based on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, was formed in March of 1987 to offer professional golf course design services. Johnston has completed over 70 golf course design projects, both new designs and redesigns, yet limits their work load to two or three design projects per year. This assures clients they are always available to serve their needs and pay close attention to each project.
“I felt the golf course fit the topography of the land very well providing for an interesting golf experience. It also worked well with the surrounding residential neighborhoods. The course was well built and I’m proud that it was so highly ranked in Kentucky for many years.”
— Clyde Johnston, Architect
Johnston has received awards for several of his designs, including for Cherry Blossom.
Design Philosophy
An architect’s design philosophy should involve more than just how the golf course is designed. There’s also good stewardship with the land and the environment. There is the responsibility to the golfer and to the golf course superintendent. And let’s not forget about the construction budget!
